Ally allows you to download different alternative formats:
- OCR for scanned files
- Tagged PDFs for Word, PowerPoint, OpenOffice, and LibreOffice
- Strict HTML
- Audio
- ePub (electronic book)
- Electronic Braille
- Version translated into multiple languages (50 for now)
- Beeline reader
- Immersive reader
The translated version is disabled by default. It can be enabled at the system level if we are interested in making it available (be careful, for example, if we have language courses).
It is important to understand that the better the original file, the better the alternative formats.
Audio, for example, sounds better if the writing language is specified in the file itself, so that an appropriate voice and intonation can be selected. If we leave fewer things for the Ally engine to "guess," such as deciding which elements are headings in a file where they have not been specified, then the result is better.
Both Immersive and Beeline are formats created to help people with reading difficulties such as dyslexia or ADHD, or even those whose native language is different from that of the material, since, for example, Immersive can mark syllables or even grammatical structures to help understand each sentence. Below is an example of this "immersive" format:
