An announcement is a message that we send to all participants in a course. It is a very useful tool that allows you to communicate general matters of a course such as reminders of important dates, situations affecting the entire class, etc.
An announcement is just that, a message that is broadcast and cannot be replied to by the recipient. It can be received only on the platform or on both the platform and email. Announcements are visible and actionable in the activity feed of each user who receives them.
In the top menu, we access the announcements. If there are unread announcements, the menu itself will show a number indicating how many. Once inside, we will see the list of created announcements (whether published or in draft), how many students have viewed them, and the option to create a new one with the "+" symbol.
If you click on the number of people who viewed the content for a specific announcement, you will be able to see who viewed it.
Creating an Announcement
We will add a new announcement by pressing the +. Give it a title and write the text. You can schedule the announcement to be visible only between certain dates by checking the Schedule Announcement box. Select the dates to show and hide the announcement. Press Publish to send the announcement or Save Draft to save your unfinished work.
If you want all participants to receive a copy of the announcement in their emails, you can check Send a copy by email.
An interesting feature when sending announcements, especially for a new course, is the ability to attach a video to the announcement.
You can add a video by clicking the camera icon in the text editor (the first on the right). This button will open the Video Studio recording interface, from where you can choose what to record or upload a previously recorded video from your device.
Videos recorded with Video Studio have a maximum duration of 10 minutes, unless you have a Video Studio license. In that case, the maximum is 30 minutes.
