The journal is a tool that offers a personal space where each student can reflect, write, or collect and display items by creating their portfolio, privately (meaning each student has their own journal, accessible only to the student and the instructors). Additionally, journals can be graded.
You can add as many journals as needed.
Adding a Journal
To add the journal tool, go to the spot in the course body where you want it to appear and click + > Create. In the panel, click Journal under Participation and Engagement.
Then, enter the name and instructions to create it.
By clicking the Settings gear, you can configure the journal so that entries and comments are editable or not, as well as set it to be gradable.
In that case, you can add a due date, the points assigned to the journal, and also associate a rubric that will be used to grade the journal.
Generating Journals with AI
You can generate journals using the generative AI features of Blackboard. To do this, click on Generate Journal Automatically. The generation options include Generate a Title and a Topic, among others. You can learn about the rest of the generator configuration options in this article.
Select from the generated journals and click Add.
