Internal messaging allows different users to communicate with each other by sending short messages. You can access the messaging interface by clicking on the chat icon in the right vertical menu.
You will see several sections (Favorites, Group, Private), and by expanding them, the conversations with different users. There is also a search tool to help locate a particular user.
From Contacts you can view your contact list and also see if you have any pending contact requests.
Managing Contacts
You can add a new contact to your list by first searching for them using the search tool. Click on their name to open your message thread with that person, and from the three-dot menu next to their name, select Add to Contacts and confirm in the popup. This will send a contact request to the other user.
In that same menu, you can also block, mute, and view the user's information, as well as delete the conversation, among other options.
Sending Messages
If you have previously communicated with a user, you can send a message to them by selecting them from the list. Simply type in the box below and click the paper airplane icon.
If you do not have messages with this person, you can search for them, click on their name, and write to them. You can also start these messages from the users’ profiles by clicking the chat icon, although you will most likely need to request contact first.
Configuring Messaging
To configure your messaging options, click on the gear icon. You can then select who can send you messages: contacts, people from your courses, or anyone.
You can also choose how you are notified when you receive messages. For each channel you want to activate, toggle the switch on.
Finally, you can choose to send the message by pressing ENTER instead of having to click on the paper airplane icon.
