Quiz attempts made by students are graded automatically, although this depends on the type of questions used: Some types, such as essay questions, must be graded manually.
You may need to regrade quizzes because of an incorrect question or because you want to review a particular student's attempt.
For all these cases, Open LMS offers options that we will review. You can find all of them by accessing the quiz in the course and then opening the quiz administration menu (the gear icon), under Results.
On the other hand, in the quiz body you can see the number of attempts made and click directly to access the Grades report, where you can review data about the attempts or even regrade an entire quiz.
Reviewing grades and responses
For both options, you will see a series of fields for filtering, followed below by the report data generated based on your filter.
You can select which attempts you want to display, including viewing who has not made any attempts and displaying all attempts, even those from users who are no longer enrolled.
You can also select and clear options to filter whether the attempt is finished, in progress, and so on.
Selecting Show only one final attempt per user will display only the attempt whose grade will be recorded in the gradebook (highest, lowest, first, and so on, depending on how you configured the quiz).
Below, you can select how many records you want per page and whether you want to list the question scores in the report. Click Show report to view the data corresponding to the filter you selected.
You can download this table in several formats: select your preferred format from the dropdown and click Download.
In addition, you can review each student's attempt by clicking Review attempt below their name, or access the question you want from that attempt by clicking its score.
You can delete attempts by selecting them in the table and clicking Delete selected attempts.
Have you seen the regrading buttons? They will be very useful if you need to invalidate or correct a question: first edit the question, and then regrade all attempts at once from here. If you need to regrade only certain students, select them in the table and click Regrade selected attempts.
If we want to regrade, we can access the list of grades and locate the student and attempt to regrade in the Grades report. We will then click Regrade attempt.
We will review the questions and edit them if necessary, adding a comment and/or adjusting the grade.
We will finish by clicking Finish review at the bottom of the window.
You can access that same regrading screen from the gradebook by locating the correct column and row and clicking the magnifying glass (Grade analysis).
At the bottom of the page, you will find a chart with the grades for the attempts.
Are you looking for more detailed information about each question answered? Try Detailed responses.
Calculating statistics
The Statistics link will take you to interesting statistical information about the quiz you are reviewing. First, choose which attempts you want to use to generate the statistics: first, last, all, or highest graded.
On the screen, you will see a series of values, such as the average grade or the number of attempts made, which you can also download in several formats.
Then, below, you will see an analysis of each of the questions that make up the quiz, with information such as the difficulty index or the weight of the question in the quiz.
At the bottom of this page, you will find statistics about the quiz questions in graph form.
Grading manually
There are questions that cannot be graded automatically and instead require review by a person, such as essay questions in which the student writes an extensive response.
To view the questions pending grading, click Manual grading in the course administration menu, under Results.
A list will appear with the questions pending grading, as well as those that have been manually regraded.
If you want to view all the questions in the quiz, simply click Also show questions that have been graded automatically.
By clicking the Update grades and Grade all links, you can access the manual grading environment for each of the questions.
Click and select which attempts you want to review, how many attempts for the question you want to view per page, and how you want to sort them (submission date, the first or last name of the student who made the attempt, randomly, and so on).
You will then see all the attempts from all students for a particular question, paginated according to what you selected: You will see the question with the response from one attempt, followed by the same question with the response from another attempt, and so on.
To finish, click Save at the bottom of the page.
