Are you someone who prefers to work in Excel? We offer the possibility to work in Excel and upload grades to your course if that's more comfortable for you, although we recommend using the Moodle gradebook features because, in the long run, they will save you work.
But sometimes we need a different calculation for grades, or to upload certain values in a column of the gradebook, so here’s how you can do it.
As a first step, let’s Export the gradebook to have a file that we can later upload without issues. From the gradebook, select More > Export in the left dropdown. Then, select your export format (OpenOffice Spreadsheet, Plain Text, Excel Spreadsheet, etc.).
Next, choose the grade items you want to include (by default, all are selected), and at the bottom of the page, set the format options, such as including feedback in the export or suspended users, the grade type (Real, Percentage, Letter), and the number of decimals to include.
Finish by clicking Download. Now you can work in your favorite spreadsheet editor.
When you finish editing, you can upload the file again using the More > Import option in the dropdown menu. As before, select from the right dropdown the type of file you are going to import (CSV, Paste from spreadsheet, XML).
Below, select the file to upload (or copy and paste the data in the box), and choose the encoding, the number of rows to preview, whether to import text scales, and, in the case of files, the field separator. To upload, click Upload grades.
