Blackboard can be configured to automatically block user accounts that attempt to authenticate multiple times in a short period to prevent brute force attacks. This works if your accounts use Blackboard's internal authentication.
To configure this feature, go to Admin Panel > Security > Account Lock Settings.
Enable the lock and set the parameters.
- Enter the maximum number of failed attempts allowed before locking.
- Decide the period in seconds during which these attempts must occur.
- Add the number of minutes the account will remain locked.
- Decide whether users will be unlocked upon resetting the password or not.
The administrator can always unlock locked accounts by searching for the user in Admin Panel > Users > Users and forcing the unlock from the affected user's contextual menu.
