Avatars in Blackboard can be configured so that each user can upload their own, or so that all avatars—or avatars in batches—are uploaded from a zip file with a certain format.

To access this setting, go to Admin Panel > Tools and Utilities > Avatars.

When you select for the administrator to assign avatars, a button will appear below to upload the zip file with the avatars into the system. This file follows a specific format:

The zip directory structure must follow the convention "user_[user_id]_1/[imageFileName]", so the numeric identifiers are needed to create this file.
