To restore any default settings after a shutdown, we recommend following these steps.
Do not attempt to remove LockDown Browser or use any other restoration method:
Windows
You can restore its settings after shutting down and restarting by adding a "/ restore" to the LockDown Browser shortcut.
- Download and install the latest LockDown Browser application for Windows.
- Right-click the "LockDown Browser" desktop shortcut in Windows and select "Properties."

On the "Shortcut" tab, locate the "Target:" field. At the end of the target address, add the following:
/ restore
There is a space before the slash.
- Click "Apply" to save the change.
- After starting LockDown Browser with the / restore option, a confirmation pop-up should appear stating "Settings restored."
Once the settings have been restored, be sure to remove "/ restore" from the LockDown Browser shortcut.
You can also restore the settings by following these steps:
- Start the system from a shutdown (not sleep).
- Start LockDown Browser and allow it to navigate to the institution's login page. You do not need to log in.
- Once on the login page, close LockDown Browser.
- Sign out of the Windows user account (do not use Windows Restart).
- Return to the Windows user account.
Mac
Restore the default settings by following these steps:
- Start the system from a shutdown (not sleep).
- Start LockDown Browser and allow it to navigate to the institution's login page. You do not need to log in.
- Once on the login page, close LockDown Browser.
