The tools available in courses are configurable at various levels to provide us with sufficient flexibility.
First, a tool must be integrated and configured (as a Building Block in the case of core tools, or as LTI / API REST or even a combination of both if they are third-party tools). Both functions are accessed from Admin Panel > Integrations. Once the tool is configured, we can enable or disable it at the system level, node level, and, in the case of Original courses, at the course level.
Enabling Tools at the System Level
To enable a tool at the system level, go to Admin Panel > Tools and Utilities > Tools and locate the tool you need to enable/disable.
Keep in mind that there are tools that cannot be disabled, such as the calendar.
For each tool, there will be one or more lines depending on whether it is system-level, course-level, content type, etc. In each of these lines, you will see whether it is active or not, and if it is locked (with the padlock) and therefore not editable at lower levels.
When clicking to enable/disable, you will have to choose whether to enable/disable for new courses or for all courses, both new and existing.
Remember that for Ultra experience courses, we cannot enable/disable on an individual course basis, whereas for Original experience courses, it is possible to achieve this level of granularity.
Now we will see how to enable/disable at lower levels.
Enabling Tools for Original Courses
In the case of courses and organizations in the Original experience, we can enable and disable tools from Admin Panel > Courses > Course Settings > Course Tools using a page similar to the one we have already seen, but where only course tools are listed.
Additionally, within each course, roles with sufficient permissions (instructors and similar) can access Control Panel > Customization > Tool Availability and enable/disable those that are not locked with the padlock at higher levels.
You can also use the nodes in the institutional hierarchy to enable and disable tools for all courses belonging to a node.
Enabling Tools for Ultra Courses
For courses in the Ultra experience, we will use the nodes of the institutional hierarchy, where we can enable and disable tools for all courses belonging to a node.
