Institutional roles can be very useful when distinguishing between different groups, such as users belonging to a faculty, a campus, or a type of user that exists in reality and does not necessarily relate to the role they play on the platform.
These roles offer flexibility when displaying information to users, since by using them we can generate different views and pages accessible only to one or more of these roles.
With Blackboard, we can limit who sees what based on the institutional role assigned to each user. This role can be one of the standard roles already included, but the interesting part is that we have the possibility to create as many roles as we need to "organize" users into groups. A user can also have multiple institutional roles, of which one and only one is primary.
Roles are cumulative, meaning if we have three roles and each allows us to see a different area, we will see all three areas. The primary role, furthermore, is the one that decides how we see these areas, that is, the branding applied to our interface.
And what is this for? Let's look at an example.
We can associate modules from the Institution Page with the different institutional roles.
Here you can see how to create modules associated with an institutional role.
