Users in Blackboard have associated roles that grant them certain privileges depending on the type of role (course, system). If there is no exact role that provides the necessary privileges to a certain group, you can create custom roles and assign them to these users.
Assigning course/organization roles
Course/organization roles are assigned at the moment a user is added to a course, and are edited within the course from Details and actions > List, clicking on the three dots of the user to be modified and selecting Member information
This will open a panel from where you can change the user's role in the course.
Also from administration in Admin panel > Courses > Courses, searching for the course and clicking Enrollments in the contextual menu. Locate the user to modify and click Edit. Select the appropriate role from the dropdown for the user and click Submit.
Assigning system roles and institutional roles
System roles and institutional roles are added and edited from the user edit screen. Remember that institutional roles do not grant any privileges; they simply add a tag to indicate that the user belongs to a certain group, which then allows us to display different information to those groups. Here is more information about institutional roles.
