Sometimes when navigating our platform, we come across phrases or words that we would like to modify to better suit those used by our organization:
- They are not translated into our language
- The translation is not very accurate
- Our organization uses a different word/expression
- We want to personalize, to add our "touch" to a message, such as the welcome email (keep reading to see this case step by step).
- ...
To address this issue, we have options to customize the language pack. Access it from Site administration > Language > Language customization and select the language you want to modify from the dropdown.
If you use multiple languages in the environment, you may need to edit each of them to adjust the translations.
Click Open language pack for editing and wait for it to fully load. This may take a few minutes. When it is completely loaded, press Continue.
At this point, it is important to know the text we want to edit in order to choose the appropriate values in the next form.
Knowing the String identifier or the specific module where the text we want to replace is located is not common, but it is not necessary either: we can use other options. Simply leave the String identifier field empty, select all modules from the dropdown, and enter part of the text you want to modify in Strings containing.
This will display all strings in all language pack files that contain the text string entered in Strings containing.
By clicking Show strings (in our example, we will search for "Se le ha abierto"), at the bottom, the strings containing the searched text will appear, and it will give us the option to modify them by entering a custom translation.
Enter the new full text in Custom local translation and click Apply changes and continue editing if you want to modify other texts, or Save language pack changes if you are done.
Before saving the changes, Open LMS will ask if you are sure, and if you click Continue, the changes will be applied and you will be taken back to the initial language customization screen.
The change is immediate; from this moment on, messages will be sent with the entered text.
Modifying the Welcome Email
It is quite common to configure the platform to automatically send a confirmation email upon account creation, which indicates the username and password, or username and a link to create/edit your own password.
This standard welcome message might not fully suit us, and at first glance, it is not obvious that it can be modified, but it is possible. To do this, we will access the language pack customization as we have seen.
We show you another example in this video
