Open LMS allows us to publish a course or a course activity as if it were an LTI tool.
And what is this useful for? For example, to add that activity or course to an instance different from ours (even to another LMS as long as it supports the use of LTI tools) so that users can access it from the site where it is published.
The first step is to build that course or activity just as you would for local users.
Once the activity is built, go to the course administration menu, and click Published as LTI tool. Click Add to start, give the resource a name, and select what you want to publish (an activity or the entire course).
Then you will have options to configure, among other things, the enrollment duration, the maximum number of enrolled users allowed from the external site, or whether grades will be synchronized with the external system and when.
Click Add method to finish.
You will then see on screen the tool with the necessary details to invoke it from the external system:
Now all that remains is to access the external system and register this tool using the invocation details. Students will access the other system, and by clicking on the link to the tool, they will be transferred to Open LMS to complete the activity without needing to create a user account for Open LMS.
Depending on the configuration, once completed, progress and grades will be returned to the external platform.
