Many times we find that we want a certain group of users or group of courses to have a different appearance than the rest of our environment, but with Open LMS, we can only configure one brand for our instance... how can we have multiple appearances?
We give you a few ideas, all based on using Snap, the default Open theme, so you can have multiple appearances within your environment.
- Using categories, we can select a different color for each category by indicating the category ID. All the branding will be the same, except for the main brand color. You can specify the category ID and color combos in Site administration > Appearance > Snap.
We could work with custom CSS to further modify the look and feel of each category. - Using user profile fields, we could change the style for users with a certain value in a profile field (for example, users with "Master" in the "Education" field). In this case, we will also work with custom CSS, after enabling the option of Branding customization based on profiles.
- Enabling different themes by course / user / category / cohort, would allow a course to have a different theme from the server standard, or a user to activate a different theme for the entire environment, to name the first two. In this case, we will check the boxes Allow styles by course / Allow styles by user / Allow themes by category / Allow themes in cohorts in Site administration > Appearance > Advanced theme settings.
